The day our youngest daughter was flying from Munich to Barcelona, I went to my favorite website where you can see the movements of planes online. When I found her plane, I saw on the computer screen that it had already crossed Austria and was going around the northern part of Italy. Then the plane was supposed to fly over the Mediterranean Sea, over the southern French Riviera, heading for Spain. The time showed that the plane was on schedule. It seemed that I knew everything about the plane – the only thing I didn’t know was what food the flight attendants were preparing!

Why did I follow the location of this plane and all the details of its flight so closely? Because I love my daughter. I don’t care where she is, what she is doing, and where her life path takes her.

In Psalm 31, David sings of God’s wonderful forgiveness, guidance, and care for us. Unlike any earthly father, God knows every detail of our lives and the deepest needs of our hearts. God has given us this promise: “I will instruct you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you” ( Ps. 31:8 ).

Whatever the circumstances today, we can rely on God’s presence and care – for “whoever trusts in the Lord, mercy surrounds him” ( Ps. 31:10 ).
